Aesthetic

My jars draw inspiration from the aesthetics of the fragment, the archaeological find, and the unfinished.
In particular, my research refers to ceramic artifacts discovered in the necropolis of the ancient Sicilian town of Abacena.

The glaze that adorns each piece — and the process of research and experimentation behind its creation — represents the core of the collection

Materials

My research begins with the collection and study of small samples of natural materials found in the surrounding landscape.

Through processing and multiple firing tests, I have identified three of them that reveal their full potential as ceramic glazes: sandstone, olive tree ash, and clay soil.

Practice

Each amphora is a unique piece crafted using a combination of hand-building and wheel-throwing techniques.
The self-produced glaze is applied using the pouring method.
In some cases, it is poured only inside the vessel, becoming a hidden core that emerges through fractures. In others, it is poured onto the external ceramic body as well, creating a chromatic and tactile contrast.
